Once again, CropLife Foundation is proud to sponsor this year's Borlaug CAST Communication Award. The 2011 recipient is Catherine Bertini from Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. Catherine is a tireless voice for women and the disadvantaged in agriculture and a former recipient of the World Food Prize. Croplife Foundation 2011 Sustainability Tour Launched The CropLife Foundation is set to launch its 2011 Sustainability Tour with an inaugural event at the Michigan Agribusiness Association Winter Conference. Leonard Gianessi will be presenting to the event his newest presentation, Sustainability of Modern Farming in the US: The Importance of Herbicides. This presentation traces the role of farming through the history of the United States. Beginning in the 1800s and looking to the future, this presentation demonstrates how farming has evolved over the past two centuries. CropLife Foundation is proud to announce the 2010 winner of the CAST Borlaug Communication award. This year's winner is Dr. Akin Adesina, a distinguished scientist, leader, and communicator who has been working passionately for Africa’s Green Revolution. CropLife Foundation Announces Sponsorship of CAST Borlaug Communication Award The Croplife Foundation is proud to announce it is the 2010 Sponsor of the Council of Agricultural Science and Technology's Borlaug CAST Communication award. The Borlaug CAST Communication Award is dedicated to Dr. Norman Borlaug, author of the first CAST publication in 1973, and to Dr. Charles A. Black, the first President and Executive Vice President of CAST. The Borlaug CAST Communication Award is presented annually for outstanding achievement by a scientist, engineer, technologist, or other professional working in the agricultural, environmental, or food sectors for contributing to the advancement of science in the public policy arena. Materials for "Solving Africa's Weed Problem" News Conference Today the CropLife Foundation is holding a press conference to release its study of handweeding practices in sub-Saharan Africa entitled, "Solving Africa's Weed Problem: Increasing Crop Production and Improving the Lives of Women." To download the files individually please visit the African Herbicide Project Page News Conference for Africa Report Next Thursday, December 10th, the CropLife Foundation at 10 AM will be holding a press conference for the release of their report, "Solving Africa's Weed Problem: Increasing Crop Production and Improving the Lives of Women." The report is a groundbreak, comprehensive look at the back-breaking work of handweeding in sub-Saharan Africa and what can be done to reduce this burden on women in Africa. CropLife Foundation was created in 2001 to promote and advance sustainable agriculture and the environmentally sound use of crop protection products and bioengineered agriculture. Through sound science-based discovery, the organization will help global agriculture economically produce safe, high quality, abundant food, fiber, and other crops, thus ensuring food security and alleviating poverty, suffering, and hardship. Through grants received from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, CropLife America, the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, and the crop protection industry, the Foundation has been able to develop programs on a broad range of crop protection and environmental stewardship issues. Among the Foundation’s environmental stewardship projects are the North Carolina Environmental Stewardship program and the Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans. In January of 2004, the Foundation established the Crop Protection Research Institute, a non-advocacy research organization focused on the economic analysis of agricultural pests, pest management, and pesticide use and regulation. CropLife Foundation was created to promote and advance sustainable agriculture and the environmentally sound use of crop protection products and bioengineered agriculture. Sustainable, environmentally sound, and economical agriculture is not merely a lofty goal. It is both an imperative and a possibility.
