2011 Borlaug CAST Communication Award Winner Announced!
The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology announces Catherine Bertini as the winner of the prestigious 2011 Borlaug CAST Communication Award. Bertini, a respected leader who has communicated the importance of agriculture and science through numerous humanitarian programs, serves as a professor of public administration at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, a senior fellow in agricultural development at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and a cochair of the Global Agricultural Development Initiative.

What is the Borlaug CAST Communication Award?
Sponsored by the CropLife Foudnation and CAST (Council on Agriuculture Science and Technology, The Borlaug CAST Communication Award is dedicated to Dr. Norman Borlaug, author of the first CAST publication in 1973, and to Dr. Charles A. Black, the first President and Executive Vice President of CAST. These two men embody the passion and dedication to agricultural research and technology that this award is designed to reward.
The Borlaug CAST Communication Award is presented annually for outstanding achievement by a scientist, engineer, technologist, or other professional working in the agricultural, environmental, or food sectors for contributing to the advancement of science in the public policy arena. Primary consideration is given to candidates who are actively engaged in promoting agriculture through research, teaching, extension, or mass communication; who have made significant contributions to their discipline or field; and who demonstrate a passionate interest in communicating the importance of agriculture to policymakers, the news media, and the public.
