While in Wilmington, Leonard met Rik Miller, DuPont's new Crop Protection President. Leonard also presented his sustainability talk to a small group of Global Technical Herbicide Product Managers and Directors including Tim Obrigawitch and John Beitler. In the afternoon at Stine-Haskell Leonard presented the Talk on Sustainability and the Importance of Herbicides to a large audience of DuPont Crop Protection staff.
March 11, 2011 On Friday, Leonard gave the Talk for a BASF company audience in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
March 10, 2011 On Thursday, Leonard presented the Talk on Sustainable Agriculture and the Importance of Herbicides as the keynote speaker at the Annual Meeting of the North Carolina Weed Science Society in Raleigh, North Carolina.
March 7, 2011 On Monday Leonard visited Monsanto's HQ in St Louis. Leonard also presented to Monsanto's Chemical Business Leadership Team chaired by Mike Frank.
March 7, 2011 Monday evening Leonard was in Jefferson City as the banquet speaker for MO-AG's Legislative Day organized by Steve Taylor, Jeff Leonard, and Duane Simpson of Monsanto. Leonard spoke to an audience of 50 including state legislators, state officials, and members of the State of Missouri's Supreme Court.
March 4, 2011 On Friday, Leonard presented the Talk at the Indiana Government Center in downtown Indianapolis for a group of 12 staff from agricultural stakeholder groups (Indiana Farm Bureau, Indiana State Chemist, Soil Conservation). This presentation was organized by Elisha Modisett Kemp, Dow AgroSciences State Government Affairs Manager. The group emphasized the importance of bringing this type of material to them for their use in discussions about the importance of pesticides.
March 4, 2011 The final Indiana presentation was made at Butler University for 40 students and faculty in a noon lecture organized by Mike Samide in the Department of Chemistry. The lecture was attended by members of the Departments of Chemistry and Biological Sciences as well as individuals from Butler’s Sustainability and Gardens Programs. Leonard spent the afternoon in individual meetings with six faculty members who were particularly interested in the subject. Both of Leonard’s student presentations (at Butler and IU) were followed with extended Q/A and generated extensive discussion and requests for slides and additional materials. The faculty organizers at both events emphasized that this presentation differed completely from what the students had been exposed to previously.
March 3, 2011 The first stop in Indiana was at Dow AgroSciences for a presentation to 30 Dow staff, organized by Garry Hamlin.
March 3, 2011 Following a drive to Bloomington and Indiana University (Ashley’s alma mater), Leonard presented the Talk as a lecture for 50 students and faculty in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) whose Dean, John Graham, facilitated the invitation. Leonard and Ashley had a small group discussion with 10 SPEA students who were particularly interested in agriculture. Three of the students were applying for internships at Dow Agro and all of them want to work in DC and influence policy.
