CPRI: Benefits Studies

In 2002, the staff of the Crop Protection Research Institute began developing a series of case studies that define the value and benefits of pesticides to United States crop production. These studies assess the value and benefits of pesticides by examining measures of grower input ($'s) and crop yield (Lbs./Acre) under common pesticide use and no pesticide use scenarios. By comparing the crop losses suffered through no pesticide use with the cost associated with pesticide use, the value of pesticides and the benefits of their use are defined.

CPRI staff are planning an intensive outreach campaign to accompany its studies. Communication of the data and conclusions contained in the studies is integral to the mission and vision of the Crop Protection Research Institute.

The benefits study project began with an examination of the value and benefits of herbicides. CPRI staff are currently working to complete a similar assessment for fungicides. Studies addressing plant growth regulators, soil fumigants, and insecticides will follow throughout 2004 and 2005.
