National Pesticide Use Database: 2002

The National Pesticide Use Database (2002), compiled by theCrop Protection Research Institute of the CropLife Foundation, contains quantitative data on the use of fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and other pesticides in U.S. crop production. The data are organized by state, crop, and active ingredient and include crop acres planted, percent of acres treated, acres treated, average annual application rate, and total pounds of pesticide applied. The sources of all data are referenced and publicly available.

NPUD2002 was constructed and released in two installments: fungicides and herbicides in February, 2006; insecticides and other pesticides* in May, 2006. While the data can be accessed in a single database, summaries and references are published in two separate reports. Prior to accessing the database, please review these reports: Pesticide Use in 2002: Fungicides & Herbicides and Pesticide Use in 2002: Insecticides & Other Pesticides. The documents contain information on the methodology used to compile NPUD2002, summary tables, data source references, and some analysis of pesticide use patterns and trends.
* The catagory referred to as "other pesticides" includes plant growth regulators, fumigants, and defoliants.

NPUD2002 is a continuation of the National Pesticide Use Databases of 1992 and 1997, available at the North Carolina State University's Center for Integrated Pest Management. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Geological Survey, and member companies of CropLife America funded the creation of NPUD2002.
